This position is located in the Office of Transportation Operations in the Office of Operations. You will serve as a national expert in Traffic Incident Management (TIM); including the leadership, institutional development and sustainability, professional capacity building, and public awareness and education.  The position entails developing, executing and promoting TIM program efforts in collaboration with Transportation and Public Safety senior leaders, mid-level officials and practitioners. The position requires knowledge of current national TIM state-of-the-art and state-of-the-practice guidance and good practices. You may conduct tasks associated with one or both categories based on the program’s needs and your strengths. You may also (1) manage executive-level interactions among governmental, private sector and association partners and serve as public safety liaison OR (2) provide technical services on a gamut of traffic incident management issues. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strengths in both of these categories.

The ideal candidate for this position is a mid-career or senior professional with experience interacting and providing technical services on traffic incident management issues with governmental, private sector and association partners and serving as public safety liaison.

Duties: 

  • Identifies, plans and implements broad new national TIM collaboration strategies with public safety  based on the wide dissemination of the FHWA-produced TIM Program policies, strategies, guidance and products to State, Tribal, regional and local customers, but also association, private sector, senior leadership partners in transportation, law enforcement, fire, towing and other public safety responders.
  • Identifies research and development needs and gaps presented by contacts with State, Tribal, regional and local TIM managers and practitioners and integrate these into the TI&EM roadmap and/or annual work plans and budget requests.
  • Serves as the Government’s Contracting Officer’s Representative or Task Monitor, as appropriate, if trained and accredited for TIM-specific contract work.
  • Analyzes and converts conclusions of data and special studies, surveys, and research specific to the TIM program standards, policies, and guides for enhancing the proliferation of the TIM products into reports, budget recommendations, articles, and presentations.
  • Uses written and oral tools and skills to promote the adoption of the TIM program products and to influence decision makers to accept good TIM practices or recommended tools and resources needed to secure management support to enhance and improve local TIM programs.
  • Creates effective relationships with senior-level transportation, public safety and towing stakeholders involved in the national TIM program development and implementation using existing national expertise and contacts in the TIM field.

Job Alert: Event Marketing Manager – ITS America @ Washington, DC

The Intelligent Transportation Society of America is seeking to hire an event marketing manager for the 2014 World Congress on Intelligent Transportation Systems, taking place Sept. 7-11, 2014, in Detroit.

The 2014 World Congress on ITS will bring together more than 10,000 of the world’s leading transportation policymakers, researchers, high-tech innovators and business professionals making it the premier ITS event of the year in the Americas. Few places in the world have the concentration of companies, research institutions and deploying agencies in transportation as does Detroit. The “Motor City” brings the opportunity to learn and leverage from the highly innovative transportation culture centered in the region and supports the theme of the 21st World Congress: Reinventing transportation in our connected world.

The primary responsibility of the event marketing manager will be to co-develop and implement an integrated marketing plan for the 2014 World Congress on ITS in partnership with ITS America’s communications and public affairs team. Identifying and establishing relationships with key industry partners as well as nontraditional partners to assist with our marketing efforts will be essential. Prior experience in event marketing and the high-tech transportation industry is strongly desired as well as proven project management experience. Writing skills are paramount and a successful candidate must have at least three years of experience in a position heavily oriented towards writing.

The ideal candidate would be able to begin Aug. 1, 2013. This is a 14-month, full-time position that does not include benefits. The Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA) seeks several Operations Research Analysts to join several of the Centers of Innovation (COI) at the John A. Volpe National Transportation Systems Center (Volpe Center). RITA coordinates the U.S. Department of Transportation‘s (DOT) research programs and is charged with advancing rigorous analysis and the deployment of cross-cutting technologies to improve our Nation’s transportation system.

This is one of eight Centers of Innovation (COI) at the Volpe Center whose function is to undertake transportation policy analysis and research that contributes to a compelling vision of the 21st Century transportation enterprise and supports decision making in the development, management, operation, and financing of an integrated multimodal national transportation system that meets 21st Century mobility needs for goods and people. These positions are located at the Volpe Center in Cambridge, MA.

RITA has  exciting career opportunities across several of its COI’s for recent graduates and mid-level Operations Research Analysts interested in conducting analyses of policies, programs, operations and systems to support the development of its  clients’ decision-making, operations and strategic planning as well as the deployment of advanced technology at the local, regional, and national level.

In this role, you will formulate, plan, and conduct analyses as well as assist senior project managers in planning and coordinating projects and conducting the assigned project segments. You will gather and analyze data using a variety of analytical techniques (e.g. surveys, literature reviews, stakeholder outreach; trade-off analysis, economic and/or regulatory impact analysis, etc.); analyze data sources to determine data quality and develop summary statistics. You will assess the readiness of agencies and the readiness of technologies for adoption; document findings in technical reports and present results before a variety of audiences.

These are great opportunities for new and mid-level professionals with strong quantitative and qualitative analysis background who excel in an entrepreneurial and collaborative environment. You must have superb problem-solving, communication and presentation skills. Experience or interest in transportation is a plus.
