“She wears her nursing bra like a bullet-proof vest and swapped her sexy handbag for a snot-stained sack”- British Mom Spits the Rhymes for Fiat 500L

December 18, 2012 at 1:26 pm

Blame it on Toyota for starting the fad of mommys and daddys rapping to sell an automotive (remember, Swagger Wagon?).  Now, Fiat has taken it to the next level and added a bit of British Swag  to make it sexy. Yeah! What is there to not love  a Fiat driving, British mother of rap who brags about wearing her nursing bra like a bullet-proof vest and swapping her sexy handbag for a snot-stained sack. Oh, and she proudly declares that her crew also includes her bitches (two cute little dogs) and her hose (of the garden variety). Refreshing, right? Fiat is awesomely rolling in the deep lately with creative advertising. It all started with its commercial for the 2012 Super Bowl titled Seduction and it has progressively gotten better from there. Can’t wait to see the next evolution of this creative binge.  Check it out!

You thought texting while driving is bad? Think again. German police catch a driver running a mobile office in his car.

November 21, 2012 at 2:30 pm

You thought texting while driving was bad? How about running a suite of machines like an office while on the move?  Here is one such case where it blows everything we preach about driver distraction.  Police stopped this above Ford Modeo in Saarland, Germany, for speeding and when they peeped in this is what they saw in the passenger seat – a laptop with docking station, a router and wi-fi antenna tied to a cellular data stick, a printer and a power inverter to keep it all humming.  For what it is worth, the German police  did not issue any citations for the Mondeo driver for any violations . Maybe because he had  his cellphone mounted to the windshield for hands-free use.  yes. That’s right.  He  at least had the sense to leave his cellphone mounted on the dashboard.  (via Motoramic – Yahoo! Autos)

A Gargantuan Gaseous Problem – Visualizing Emissions in New York City

November 20, 2012 at 6:06 pm

Via Atlantic Cities

How do you tell the story about big agenda issues like environmental impact and emissions in a city like New York? One way to do this is by taking all the relevant data you can get and stitching it together in a graphic format that visually demonstrates the scope of the problem.  Let’ s see how its done.  Let’s start with the problem.

Carbon Visuals and the Environmental Defense Fund created an animation showing giant blue balls standing in for New York’s greenhouse-gas emissions in 2010 (the last year data were available). Each sphere represents one ton of carbon-dioxide vapor. Added up, they represent 54 million metric tons of climate-toasting chemicals, which is the amount of emissions that NYC recorded in 2010.  It is quite arresting when you visually see a huge mountain (Everest-sized) of blue balls blanketing your entire city.  Check it out.

Today’s NY TIMES article reports that Netherland is upping the ante with more investment in upgrading its biking infrastructure  –  €120 million, or about $150 million, in
cycling infrastructure over the next eight years, with almost half of that sum be spent in just the next four years.

This is Why Post-Sandy New York City Should Seriously Consider Bus Rapid Transit (and all things Transit)

October 31, 2012 at 5:33 pm

Saw this picture below tweeted out by joanna coles @JoannaColes Editor-in-Chief Cosmopolitan Magazine. She shot this gridlocked thoroughfare from her office (located on the 38th floor of the building where Cosmopolitan mag. is located).  With its subway system crippled by Sandy, this pic. shows how badly NYC needs to reconsider its transportation strategies and prioritize implementing any/all strategies that moves people away from cars.  It is going to be once heck of a recovery until the subway limps back to normal!

Saw this image float through my feed. The intensity of the situation was well captured in the image: “Rescuers attempt to stop a man from committing suicide on a bridge in Wuhan, Hubei province, on October 8, 2012. The man was rescued after he climbed onto the top of a bridge over the Yangtze River and threatened his own life if his economic dispute could not be resolved. (Reuters/Stringer)”
